APPLETON, WI – As the effects of COVID-19 continue, we’re expanding our support for business policyholders during this unprecedented time by:
- Extending our temporary coverage expansion for restaurants through June 30, 2020
- Temporarily suspending enforcement of our Vacancy Provision for Commercial Property clients
Extending our temporary coverage expansion for restaurants
On March 19, 2020, we announced that we temporarily extended the coverage afforded by the Hired Non-Owned Auto Endorsement to our insured restaurants that needed to offer or expand food delivery services. As communicated on March 19, we extended this coverage to restaurants while ordered to cease on-premises dining operations by civil authorities, up to a maximum of 90 days.
Regardless of where states within our operating footprint stand on retiring orders to cease on-premises dining operations, we are extending this temporary coverage for all states through June 30, 2020. The temporary period for which we are extending the Hired Non-Owned Auto Endorsement coverage to our insured restaurants, pursuant to our March 19 communication, will end on June 30, 2020. After 11:59 p.m., local time, on June 30, 2020, the coverage afforded to our restaurant insureds will continue according to the terms and conditions of the applicable policy contracts, without our voluntary extension of the coverage afforded by the Hired Non-owned Auto Endorsement.

Temporarily suspending enforcement of Vacancy Provision for Commercial Property
As we monitor the COVID-19 stay at home and shelter in place orders instituted by civil authorities in March 2020, we understand that certain businesses may have been required to leave properties vacant for extended periods of time. In general, our commercial property policies include Vacancy Provisions that limit coverages when an insured property has been vacant for more than 60 consecutive days before the occurrence of loss or damage.
To assist our commercial property customers in these unprecedented circumstances, we will temporarily suspend enforcement of these Vacancy Provisions in all our commercial property policies for 30 days after these provisions otherwise would have been triggered. In effect, we are extending the trigger for the Vacancy Provisions from “60 consecutive days” to 90 consecutive days.
No action is required by our policyholders to receive this benefit. We will adjust claims in accordance with this communication automatically.
This temporary 30-day extension of the Vacancy Provisions trigger will end on June 30, 2020. After June 30, 2020, we will continue to enforce the Vacancy Provisions of all commercial property policies according to the terms and conditions of the applicable policy contract. We continue to monitor the effects of civil authority orders on our insured businesses and reevaluate whether further suspensions of our policy contracts’ Vacancy Provisions are appropriate in the coming months.
